Making friends at an online school

Making friends at an online school can be a concern for parents whose children are making the switch from mainstream school. However learning at an online school can create unique opportunities for children to connect with one another in ways they might not in a bricks and mortar school.

In this blog we'll be discussing how children and young people can make friends at an online school. We'll talk about how My Online Schooling, a leading British international online school, facilitates social connection and collaboration among our pupils. Keep reading to find out more!

Live Interactive Lessons

Making friends at an online school is easier when you are learning in an interactive environment. Pupils at My Online Schooling are encouraged to work collaboratively in their live lessons. Teachers use the break-out room function in the virtual classroom to facilitate group work, and pupils can interact with each-other and their teacher by using their cameras and microphones. As online school pupils work remotely from home, opportunities for collaboration and discussion are extra important. At My Online Schooling, we ensure this is worked into pupils' learning day-to-day.

School Events & Meet-ups

Life at My Online Schooling isn't all online! As an international online school with pupils across the globe, it's important to us that our families have the opportunity to meet one another face-to-face where possible. We host meet-ups for pupils and their families in different regions, allowing classmates and parents to connect with one another in person. This year, we were delighted to host our first ever family meet-up in Dubai. Check out some snaps from the event below!

House Meetings & Virtual Common Room

School houses are also an integral part of life at most British and international schools. At My Online Schooling, your child will be placed in one of our four school houses - Endeavour, Enterprise, Challenger or Discovery. House meetings take place once a week after assembly. House time is a time for pupils to get to know their peers in different year groups and socialise, play games and engage in topical discussions.

Our virtual common rooms are also a fantastic place for our pupils to connect outside of lessons. Our pupils regularly enjoy chatting in the common room and building relationships with their peers during free periods.

Extra-Curricular Activities

Getting involved in activities after-school is another great way for your child to connect with like-minded peers outside of class-time. These could be in-person activities in your local community, or online via any of the free After-School Clubs offered at My Online Schooling. Pupils can choose from clubs such as journalism, debating, active club, filmmaking and much more.
